Joining GoGet as an Extra Driver
If you're on a learner licence, or you've been driving independently for less than one year, you won't be able to create your own GoGet account just yet, but you can still drive with GoGet by joining as an Extra Driver on an existing member's account.
The good news: you don't need to start over. Everything you've already completed in the sign-up form is saved, and you'll pick up right where you left off once you've been invited.
Why can't I create my own account?
GoGet requires all Account Holders to have at least one year of independent driving experience (that is, driving on your own, not on a learner licence). If you don't meet this requirement yet, you can join as an Extra Driver instead. Once you've gained more experience, you'll be able to create your own account down the track.
What you'll need
An invitation from someone with an active GoGet account, for example, a parent, family member, friend or housemate. Only the Account Holder can send an Extra Driver invitation, and it must be sent to the same email address you used to sign up.
How to join as an Extra Driver
Step 1 — Find your Account Holder. Ask a family member or friend with an active GoGet account if they're happy to add you as an Extra Driver on their account.
Step 2 — They send you an invitation. The Account Holder can do this in the GoGet app or on the website:
- Account Holder logs in to their GoGet account
- Go to Profile, then Extra Driver Management
- Tap the + icon in the bottom right of the screen
- Enter your email address. This must be the exact email address you used when you tried to sign up
- Tap Send Invitation
Step 3 — Check your email. You'll receive an Extra Driver invitation from GoGet. Open it and click the link.
Step 4 — Finish signing up. Log back in to your incomplete application. You'll skip the steps you've already completed (like your login details and ID verification) and continue signing up as an Extra Driver to finish your application.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to fill out the sign-up form again? No. Your progress is saved. Once you've accepted the invitation and logged back in, you'll continue from where you left off.
The invitation went to a different email address — what do I do? To avoid starting the sign up form again, the invitation must be sent to the same email address you used to sign up. Ask the Account Holder to remove the pending invitation and send a new one to the correct address. They can do this in Profile → Extra Driver Management, under Pending Invitations.
I don't know anyone with a GoGet account. Can I still join? You'll need to join an existing account, so you won't be able to become a member on your own just yet. Once you've been driving independently (off your learner licence) for one year, you'll be able to sign up for your own account.
Who pays for my driving? As an Extra Driver, your bookings are charged to the account you've joined. It's worth having a chat with your Account Holder about how you'll manage costs before you start driving.
