It is important that you only access and drive GoGet vehicles within your booking time to avoid potential early access and late return fines.

How do I start and finish my booking?

Your smartcard

Before accessing a GoGet vehicle, you’ll need to make sure you have a smartcard and that it is activated. You can activate your smartcard here. If you don’t yet have a smartcard, visit one of our partner locations to pick up a member pack and smartcard.

Tapping on and off

When you arrive at your GoGet vehicle for your booking, you will notice a small box on the driver’s side under the windscreen with a green light. Slowly tap your smartcard over this box and the doors will unlock.

The same process is used to lock the vehicle. Refer to this article for more information on how to access and start the car using your smartcard or what to do if your smartcard isn’t unlocking the vehicle.

This is called tapping on or off. It allows you access to your GoGet vehicle by unlocking the doors and also gets logged in our system each time you tap so we know that you are accessing the vehicle.

To start your booking within your booking time, use your smartcard to tap on, you may hear an audible beep, however if you’re unsure whether you’re successfully tapped on, check to see if the doors have unlocked and you will know your tap on was successful.

The same process is used at the end of your booking to finish your booking. You will know that you have successfully tapped off because the vehicle doors will lock.

You also use this process of tapping on and off each time you wish to lock and unlock the vehicle throughout your trip.

Car keys stay in the car, Smartcard stays with you

The keys to start the vehicle will generally be located inside near the ignition on a cord. The keys are used to start the vehicle just like any other car. Unless the vehicle has push-button start, in which case, please refer to your booking confirmation email for further details on how to start your vehicle.

The keys are to remain inside the vehicle at all times. If you wish to lock or unlock the vehicle throughout your booking, simply use your smartcard to lock and unlock the vehicle.

How do you know I’ve accessed the vehicle?

It is important to tap on and off, not just to lock and unlock your vehicle, but also to let us know that you’ve started and finished using the vehicle to avoid potential erroneous early access or late return fines. Read more about the importance of tapping on and off.

The importance of tapping on and off with your smartcard

We log all taps on and off for your smartcard and these need to be within your booking time or the system may automatically generate a fine for accessing a vehicle outside your booking time.

Even if you have returned the vehicle, you need to make sure to tap off within your booking time. Check that you have successfully tapped off by checking that the vehicle doors have locked.

If you tap off after your booking has ended our system will assume this is a late return, and automatic system-generated fines may apply and the additional booking time may also be charged to you.

The same applies to accessing a vehicle before your booking time, if you tap on before you booking start time, the system may automatically generate an early access fine.

Grace period

The system allows up to 5 minutes before your booking starts, and 5 minutes after your booking ends, without incurring fines or extra time booked. However, even if a car is 5 minutes late, it can inconvenience other members, so please try to avoid relying on this.

What if I left something in the vehicle?

Accessing a GoGet vehicle outside your booking time can result in a system-generated fine being issued to you.

If you’re still at the vehicle, and it is outside your booking time, check if the vehicle will still let you in by tapping on. If so, you can open it and retrieve your belongings and then tap off to lock the vehicle again. As long as you don’t drive the vehicle and remember to successfully tap off, you won’t receive a fine. Make sure you’ve successfully tapped off afterwards by checking the doors have locked.
