If a car is equipped with Android Auto, you can connect your Android phone to it to access your maps, musics, contacts and other features through the car's display. This means you can take calls, play your favourite song, or switch destinations all while driving.
If you don't have a cable with you, you'll need to connect to the car stereo with Bluetooth instead.
Setup
The video below is a quick guide on how to connect your phone to the car's Android Auto:
Quick Summary:
Connect your phone using a USB cable.
Some cars might allow Bluetooth (if using Bluetooth, check that Bluetooth is ON on your phone).
This will activate Android Auto on your phone. Follow the prompts on your phone to get set up.
The car will ask for permissions depending on what you want connected. For example, you can allow Android Auto access to your contacts (for calls) and location (for navigation), but prohibit it from accessing your calendar.
Once set up is complete, the display screen in your car will now function like your phone!
Using Android Auto
Tap on the β button to open the app launcher, where you'll find the familiar app icons laid out with your most commonly used apps automatically featured in the top row.
You'll see several of the icons have the Google Assistant badge. By tapping the icon, your Assistant will tell you about your calendar, give you the weather report, read you the news or set a reminder for you.
Here's what your app launcher looks like and information about each section:
β App launcher: To open app launcher, tap the app launcher button
Multi-tasking widget: You can control ongoing content with this widget, while using another app.
π Notification center: To see your recent calls, messages and alerts, tap the notification button
Microphone: To talk to Google, tap the microphone or say "Hey Google" to talk to Google. Your car might also have a physical voice command button on the steering wheel that you can press and hold to talk to Google. Check your user guide or consult your car's manufacturer for more information.
